Steve Pederson Out

There's major news out of Husker Nation this evening… UNL Chancellor Harvey Perlman announced Monday that he has asked Athletic Director Steve Pederson to resign.

It comes after a series of embarrassing losses by the Husker football team.

Pederson has been a controversial figure in Husker Nation since his firing of head coach Frank Solich after a 9-3 season in 2003..

Earlier this afternoon, a news conference wrapped up at the University where Chancellor Harvey Pearlman addressed the firing.

Perlman said that since July he's noticed a decline in morale and growing concern about keeping key personnel in the athletic department.

Perlman says several people came forward with concerns about Pederson's management style and his connection with staff, donors and athletes.

Perlman says it will cost the university more than $2 million dollars to buy Pederson out of his contract.
