Stop At Weigh Station Saves Lincoln Infant
A Nebraska state trooper came to the aid of a Lincoln family that stopped at the Interstate 80 weigh station near Waverly with a medical crisis.
The Nebraska State Patrol says Steve and Jill Engel were headed back to Lincoln on Monday after a doctor's appointment in Omaha for their 9-month-old daughter, Ella.
Along the way, a fuse in the car blew, cutting power to the baby's ventilator. By the time the family made it to the weigh station, the ventilator's backup battery had died.
Trooper Nathan Veal was working at the weigh station, and he helped the family hook up the ventilator in the station's office.
The baby, who had been pale and was struggling to breath, soon regained color.
