Severe weather awareness week hits close to home for an area school district.
Norris high school was destroyed by the Hallam tornado in 2004 and now holds a district wide tornado drill every year to keep students and staff prepared.
Phil Severson is a teacher at Norris, he says, “there was glass crashing and afterwards a lot of water running and…it looked like a disaster movie. I mean, the pictures tell it all.”
Since rebuilding, the school now has 2 “tornado safe rooms” with reinforced concrete ceilings.
The principal says the drill always runs smoothly because people know the damage it can do.
