Gene Cary lost his son, Neil, 9 years ago after he tragically died because of a work incident.

After Neil died, his family received $2,000 for the funeral from his company, but even with that donation, there were still a lot of bills for the family to pay.

"You have to deal with it, you have to set up funeral arrangements, you have a lot of expenses that come from this,” Neil Cary’s father Gene said.

Earlier this week in the Nebraska Legislature, it was proposed by Senator Dan Quick, that if someone like Neil dies on the job without a spouse or kids they would be entitled to $25,000 towards their estate.

When Gene Cary lost his son he got connected with United Support and Memorial for Workplace Fatalities group is a national group whose mission is to help families that lose a loved due to a workplace incident. Cary said this group helped him tremendously through losing his son.
