A phone scam targeting Lincoln and Lancaster County residents is making the rounds once again.

The scammer calls people pretending to be and employee from the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office and tells them that they have an outstanding arrest warrant.

The fake employee then informs the victim for them to keep from going to jail they need to
purchase a Green Dot Card (pre-paid card) from a local business and call back and give the fake
employee the numbers off the card.

Once the numbers are given, the scam has occurred and the money is lost. Currently the number the scammers are using is (402) 322-2297.

The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office would never call and ask any citizens to pay an arrest warrant to them or have a citizen purchase a pre-paid card for any reason.

If you receive a call like this, hang up immediately. If you are concern after the call, you may contact the
Sheriff’s Office at (402) 441-6500.
