The Nebraska State patrol is investigating and officer-involved shooting that happened near Rushville Sunday morning.

At around 10:20 a.m., the Sheridan County Sheriff's Office says they responded to reports of an assault at a home.

When the arrived they found a victims with a broken arm.

Shorlty after, the alleged assailant, 32-year-old Clarence Leading Fighter, was found at Immaculate Conception Church.

A little after 11 a.m. he was shot by a deputy.

The suspect has since passed away from his injuries.

NSP says the preliminary investigation indicates the deputy used deadly force to protect himself and parishioners inside the church at the time.

Nebraska State Law requires a grand jury to convene in the case as well.
