(KHGI) -- A Grand Island man was given probation after being convicted of abusing his two toddlers.

Court documents show that Judge Arthur Wetzel sentenced Alexis Jacobo Gonzalez, 22, to one year of probation and ordered him to pay a $500 fine after he pleaded no contest to two counts of misdemeanor negligent child abuse. The charges were reduced from felony intentional child abuse in exchange for his plea.

The Grand Island Police Department said the toddlers, ages 2 and 3, were taken to the hospital in after police said they were injured by their father on Dec 4.

GIPD said the father made the initial call to the hospital, where the boys were treated for their injuries.

Police said the 2-year-old boy had a CAT scan and X-rays for injuries including scratches and bruising on his face and swelling of his jaw, bruising and scratches on his chest, thigh and knee, as well as teeth marks from being bitten on his right thigh. Police said he also had long, thin marks on his buttocks consistent with something like a belt.

Officers said the 3-year-old boy's injuries weren't as severe, but he had a hand print on the left side of his face and finger marks on his shin.
