Those who were taken into custody were apprehended around 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

This is a developing story and we'll keep you updated, as more information comes into our newsroom.

UPDATE:

A north Lincoln community is reeling from the shock of a shooting they said is far too close to their homes.

"It's kind of freaky having this be in this neighborhood," said Brandon Elwell, who lives near 27th and Holdrege.

Cole Hayes, also a resident of the Clinton neighborhood, said he woke up to sirens, something that normally doesn't phase him. But this is different.

"Car accidents happen, but for someone to be shot right outside the police station is worrisome," Hayes said.

The shooting, which claimed the life of a man whom police haven't named, happened on the Southeast corner of 27th and Holdrege, right across from a Lincoln Police Station.

Captain Danny Reitan said the 911 call came out around 9:40 a.m. The initial reports were of gunshots fired. Then a police officer in the area saw a man down, Reitan said.

Police were on the scene in less than a minute and Lincoln Fire and Rescue followed.

"They found a male subject deceased," Reitan said.

Reitan said the man appears to have died from a gunshot wound.

They haven't released any additional details about the sequence of events or how many shots were fired.

Witnesses told reporters they heard anywhere from three to eight gunshots.

Police are still looking for the suspects.

They said two men got away in a white car with front-end damage.

"We don't know the connection between the persons responsible and victims at this point, but there does not appear to be a threat to the general public," Reitan said.

Again, police said they don't believe there's an ongoing threat to the public.  They said they are interviewing some people, but no arrests have been made.

If have any surveillance video or information, call them.

Lincoln Police have confirmed that one person is dead after a shooting in north Lincoln.

Law enforcement swarmed the scene near 27th and Holdrege Street around 9:40 a.m. Thursday. Officers were on scene within a minute, police said.

Police say a man was shot and killed. His identity has not been released.

Police are looking for suspects, two men, who fled in a white car with front-end damage.

Witnesses told Channel 8 Eyewitness News they heard three shots fired, but police have confirmed that number.

Police say there does not appear to be any ongoing risk to the public.

Authorities are working on interviewing witnesses and reviewing surveillance video. They say the investigation is still in its preliminary stages.

Officers have blocked off the 2700-2900 block of Holdrege Street for evidence collection, and police are asking the public to plan accordingly and take alternative routes.
