Kearney beats Union Bank/Pius X to win Cornhusker League Championship
Trey Rodriguez provided half of the Kearney hits and had an RBI as Runza topped Lincoln Pius X, 3-2, in the Cornhusker League Championship.
As the Kearney offense was able to provide a 3-0 lead, Noah Carpenter locked down the Pius bats with eight strikeouts in his 6.0 innings as a starter while only giving up one run.
Mason Casper came on in the seventh inning and gave up a run, yet Casper settled in and Kearney was able to limit the damage before getting the game's final out.
Kearney scored twice in the top of the second and had another run in the fourth before Pius was able to push its first run across the board in the home half of the fifth inning.
Pius outhit Kearney, 6-4, and Runza committed two errors while the Lincoln outfit had none.
