Nebraska basketball creates an atmosphere like no other.

"It's just crazy. I've always felt that Nebraska will support any sport. If we had a horseshoe team we would fill the stands for a horseshoe team," longtime fan Walter Case said.

As the Cornhuskers take on UC Riverside for the first game of the 2019 season, a lot of high expectations from fans.

"It's going to take them a little time but i think they'll have a fairly good record this year. each game they're going to get better."

Some might say even higher hopes for that of new head coach Fred Hoiberg.

Tuesday night's game was his big debut in Pinnacle Bank Arena and he was welcomed with nothing but positive thoughts.

"I'm very excited because I want to see how Freddy does with the team cause it's his first game. I love the way he plays the game, he's fast pace up and down the court," Bob Gabriel said.

"He brought in 12 recruits. We only have two guys from last year. I just think if we can have a decent season this year, I think our best years are ahead of us, I really believe that," Case said.
