Emergency crews responded Sunday night to the scene of a fatal single-vehicle accident west of Lincoln.

The crash occurred around 5:20 p.m. near the intersection of SW 112th and W Van Dorn Street.

After arriving on scene, first responders discovered a westbound 2000 Subaru driven by the sole occupant, 55-year-old Jeffrey VanLent of rural Denton, Nebraska, had lost control on the gravel road and slid into the south ditch. Upon entering the ditch, the Subaru struck a power pole and came to a rest on its side with VanLent partially ejected from the vehicle.

First responders administered CPR, but VanLent was pronounced deceased at the scene. Safety restraints were not in use.

The incident remains under investigation by the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office.
