Lincoln man given life sentence for New Year's Eve murder of ex-girlfriend
A Lincoln man has been sentenced to life in prison for fatally stabbing the mother of his children on New Year's Eve.
Lancaster County District Court records show Neland Gray Jr. received the sentence Tuesday, after pleading no contest to a second-degree murder charge in October.
Investigators said Gray Jr., stabbed Dijah Ybarra 15 times after Ybarra talked to him about her new boyfriend. She later died at a Lincoln hospital.
Gray Jr. told police in an interview he took a purple steak knife with him when he went with Ybarra to "protect himself" from her new boyfriend and he got angry with her when she told him she didn't love him anymore, according to court documents.
Gray Jr. was also sentenced to 25-35 years for a felony weapons charge.
