Students raise money, awareness for Japan

A UNL organization held a fundraiser last night to benefit people in Japan.

It was part raffle, part concert and all an effort to raise money and awareness for the crisis in Japan.

For event organizer Spencer Davenport, it was also personal.  He's lived in Japan, has friends over there and wants to work there when he's done with school.  Spencer says, “I know that everyone in Japan and all the organizations that are sending help are working so hard so I do believe that Japan will be able to get through this and they will be able to rebuild.”

Since he knows it won't be easy, he set up 400 seats and rallied together some Japanese students to make music, money and a little good luck origami.

With community support, the student group started the night with over $1,500.  It's goal was to double that.
