The Lincoln Police Department said 46-year-old Robert Mello of Omaha was arrested for assaulting an officer.

Lincoln Police said Mello dragged a 39-year-old Lincoln Police officer in the Menards parking lot at 89th and Andermatt drive Thursday.

LPD said  the officer was trying to arrest Mello  around  5 p.m.  for fraud.  They said Mello tried to return a drill he didn’t buy at Menards.

Officer Katie Flood said Mello ran to his car and struggled with the officer as he drove forward and backward, dragging the officer until the officer let go.

She said the officer was dragged at least 10 feet in both directions before Mello got away.

The Nebraska State Patrol took the suspect into custody Thursday night in Nebraska City.

Mello is currently in Lancaster County Jail for 2nd degree assault on an officer, which is a  felony, as well as other several other misdemeanors.
