Teachers and Parents Are Getting Educated About Autism

The number of students diagnosed with autism has doubled in the past six years. This prompted a state-wide program to educate not only teachers about this condition, but parents as well.

More than 500 students in Nebraska are diagnosed with autism., which is a neurological disorder. It appears during the first three years of a childs life. And with more and more students being diagnosed with this disorder, the states public school system is reacting through education.

A new program will educate teachers of the public school system as well as parents on how to better educate these students. The program also allows for a better diagnosis of the disorder. Schools will provide a free comprehensive, multi disciplinary evaluation. The state received one million dollars in federal funding.

It is also autism awareness month. It's estimated that as many as 1-point-five million Americans are autistic.
