The Debate Over Gambling Continues Here in Nebraska

Nebraska Lawmakers are being asked to roll the dice one more time when it comes to gambling here in the state. A Legislative Committee heard testimony on Monday on four proposals that would ask voters to approve casino gambling in one form or another. At least one of them would allow Native American Tribes the opportunity to build casinos.

As always, there's two sides this controversial issue. The owner of the Venetian Resort Hotel even was there to share his expertise on casinos. Some agree with him that the state loses money and tourism from Council Bluffs Casinos and feels gambling will help get Nebraska out of the budget deficit it faces. But others feel gambling will corrupt families and hurt local businesses.

There's no word on when the Legislative Committee will vote on whether to advance the bill for debate.
