The State Budget Crisis is Hitting Nebraska Schools Hard
The Appropriations Committee has proposed to cut around 10-million dollars from Nebraska schools and that's 4-million less than Governor Johanns' proposal. The proposed cuts mean Lincoln Public Schools may have to cut around 1 hundred and seventy five staff members.
Students might notice some of their favorite teachers missing, something that might have to be done in order for Lincoln Public Schools to make the 10-million dollar cut.
The proposed cuts aren't final. Lawmakers will still have to vote on it, but the school board needs to make decisions fast. By state law they need to let staff know if they won't have a job next school year by April 15th. The school board will then be making some final decisions on April 8th.
