Three Huskers named All-Big 12

A trio of Nebraska softball players earned All-Big 12 honors in a vote of the league's coaches, the conference announced on Tuesday. Junior right-hander Ashley Hagemann was Nebraska's lone first-team selection, while freshman twins Tatum and Taylor Edwards both garnered second-team accolades.

Hagemann's first-team selection marked the first All-Big 12 award of her career. Her selection increased Nebraska's Big 12-leading total to 17 all-conference pitchers in the 16-year history of the league, while Hagemann became Nebraska's 13th first-team All-Big 12 pitcher. The Edwards twins were each honored in their freshman season, as Nebraska had a pair of freshmen earn all-Big 12 honors for only the second time in school history and the first time since 2001.

An Elkhorn native, Hagemann is 29-11 this season with a 1.81 ERA and 305 strikeouts in 247.1 innings pitched. She leads all Big 12 pitchers in wins, innings, appearances (44) and starts (35), while ranking second in complete games (28), third in strikeouts, fifth in opponent batting average (.189), saves (2) and shutouts (7) and ninth in ERA. She earned the decision in each of Nebraska's 18 conference games, posting a 9-9 record with a 2.11 ERA against a league that features seven ranked teams and sent a nation-best eight teams to the NCAA Tournament.

Tatum Edwards earned second-team All-Big 12 accolades as a pitcher and utility player. She is batting .285 this season with 14 home runs and 37 RBIs, while posting a 7-0 record and a 2.40 ERA in the circle. Edwards was Nebraska's top hitter in Big 12 play, leading the team in average (.283), home runs (5), doubles (2) and slugging percentage (.604), while ranking second in RBIs (11). She ranked third in the league in home runs for conference-only games. Overall, Edwards ranks fifth in the league with her 14 total home runs.

Taylor Edwards earned second-team all-conference honors from her catching position. Edwards enters postseason play batting .358 with 18 home runs and 64 RBIs. Her 64 RBIs lead the league, are the most ever by a Big 12 freshman and rank seventh overall in conference history. Edwards' 18 home runs are a Nebraska freshman record, rank as the second-most home runs ever by a Big 12 freshman and are eighth overall in conference history. In addition to leading the league in RBIs, Edwards ranks second in home runs, total bases (114) and slugging percentage (.770), while ranking sixth in walks (33), 10th in on-base percentage and 11th in average. She was also the only freshman nationally named one of 25 finalists for USA Softball Player of the Year and one of only three Big 12 hitters on the list.

The all-conference selections and the rest of the Husker softball team open NCAA Tournament play at the Stanford Regional at 5 p.m. (Central) on Friday against Fresno State.
