Three Theaters Close to Make Way For “The Grand”

The 14-screen Grand Theatre in downtown Lincoln officially opens to the public Friday. The opening of The Grand means three other movie complexes in downtown will be closing. The Plaza-4, across the street will, The Douglas-3 and Cinema-Twin, down the block, will be closing on Friday, all of which have been landmarks in downtown Lincoln since the early '70's. Those theaters are essentially being consolidated into the new megaplex, as they are all owned by Douglas Theaters.

It is not known yet what will go into the vacated theater-buildings, but the owners of the Cooper Plaza say retail businesses would be likely. If you're wondering about parking for the new Grand Theater, you can park free for three hours in the Center Park Garage near 12th and “O”. All you have to do is have your parking-stub validated at the theater when you go in.
