Traffic stop nets 50 lbs. of pot on I-80

A Nebraska State Patrol stop on Interstate 80 led troopers to the discovery of nearly 50 pounds of marijuana in a car trunk.

The patrol says a trooper stopped an eastbound car Thursday afternoon on I-80 near Lincoln on suspicion of following another car too closely. Authorities say a subsequent search of the car uncovered 49.3 pounds of marijuana in several bags in the trunk.

The driver of the car, 49-year-old Paul Carl Riedel, was arrested and lodged in the Lancaster County Jail. The patrol says Reidel had identification showing addresses from Midlothian, Va., and Santa Rosa, Calif.  He was the only one in the car.
