Update: trucker identified in fiery Highway 2 crash

The Nebraska State Patrol says a truck driver who was killed in a fiery collision in southeast Nebraska was from Michigan.

In a news release Wednesday, the patrol identified him as 52-year-old Michael Wiechert, of St. Claire Shores, Mich. The accident occurred March 30 on Nebraska Highway 2 near Dunbar.

The patrol says Wiechert's semitrailer ran into the back of a tanker truck and caught fire. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The patrol says dental records were needed to make a positive identification. The other truck driver, 30-year-old Theodore Lowther, received non-life-threatening injuries.
