UNL Announces Renovations
UNL has announced a 65 million dollar renovation project. About 50 million of that will go to upgrades and improvements in the athletic department. That includes five thousand new seats at Memorial Stadium, a new locker room and an indoor workout facility. The rest will go towards academic upgrades. The money will come from private donations, not costing the taxpayers a cent. But both the new plans are drawing some fire. During tough budget times, some are feeling left out. In particular, those involved in UNL programs that have been cut recently. The University cut the Exercise Science Program, a program roughly two hundred students identified as their major. However, some programs will benefit. About 15 million dollars of the campaign will go towards improvement to computer science and a virology lab. The University says investing that much into athletics is important to keep the school competitive and strong.
