UNL Holds Electric Car Competition

Some new technology was off to the races on UNL's east campus Sunday.

High schools from around the area competed to see who could build the best electric car.

They raced around the track to see whose car could run the longest on two 12 volt batteries.

The students built the cars from the ground up and driver garret mcsorley says they're headed in the right direction

“I think this gives us a basis of what we can do.  it's just a building block or a foundation of what could come,” saod Garrett McSorely.

Garrett's team got first place this year and he says their car can reach speeds up to 75 miles–per–hour.
