Update: Fire tears through vacant home

Battalion Chief Leo Benes of Lincoln Fire and Rescue is now calling a fire in Southeast Lincoln “suspicious” in nature.

The fire broke out around 5 a.m. Tuesday near 49th and Myrtle.

Neighbors called Lincoln Fire Department after seeing flames shooting from the home's roof.

Acting Battalion Chief Jim Bopp says that fire crews responded quickly and were able to put out the fire.  No one was in the home at the time, as the residents were in the process of moving out.

The home is not believed to be a total loss, and the fire damage is mainly on the second floor of the home.

The Duty Inspector is still investigating where and how exactly the fire started.
