UPDATE: LFR says cigarette to blame for fire at north Lincoln apartment complex

Lincoln Fire & Rescue says a cigarette is to blame for a 3-alarm fire that forced the evacuation of a north Lincoln apartment complex. 

Battalion Chief Michael Smith says the fire started on the third floor and caused significant damage to the roof and upper floors. 

No injuries were reported and fire officials say they were able to rescue several pets from the building. 

Crews battled the fire for almost two hours Saturday afternoon and remain on scene monitoring hot spots. 


Lincoln Fire & Rescue is on the scene of a large fire at the Northridge Heights apartment complex near 27th and Fletcher Avenue. 

The fire started shortly after 1:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon. 

A large plume of smoke is visible coming from the complex.
