Update: Seward Co. family terrorized in their home
Seward County authorities are searching for a man they say terrorized a rural family Tuesday afternoon.
Sheriff Joe Yocum issued this press release regarding the incident:
Seward County authorities are investigating a rural home invasion that occurred Tuesday afternoon near Milford, NE. The Seward County Sheriff's Office was summoned to a rural home north of Milford adjacent to U.S. Highway #6 at about 4:50 p.m. and discovered an adult female along with a juvenile female in a closet inside the home. The two told investigators that a unknown white male about 45-50 years of age had forced them into the closet and secured it before fleeing in the family's 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
The home invasion began at about 3:00 p.m. when the unknown male entered the residence through the front door. Once inside, he confronted a 13 year old female, who was home alone at the time. The male drank beverages and ate food while in the home before changing into clothes belonging to the girl's father. The suspect took other articles from the home including money belonging to the 13 year old and her older sister.
The mother arrived home at about 4:20 p.m. and was also confronted by the intruder, who threatened her with a knife. He forced the mother to surrender cash and the keys to the family Jeep before forcing her and her daughter into the closet. The mother used her cell phone to text message an older daughter who was not at home at the time of the incident and directed her to call 911. The older daughter called the Seward County E911 Center to report the incident. The Seward County Sheriff's Office and Milford Police responded to the scene. Neither of the females were injured by the intruder during the episode.
The suspect is described as a white male between 45-50 years of age, clean shaven, approximately 5'8″ tall, approximately 175 pounds, with bushy salt and pepper hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing a sage green long sleeved “Henley” shirt, blue jeans, and brown hiking boots. The suspect fled the residence in a 2005 silver Jeep Grand Cherokee bearing Seward County license plates # 16-C459. The vehicle had a Concordia parking sticker affixed to the left side of the rear bumper.
The suspect is believed to have driven to Highway#6 but departed the area in an unknown direction. Anyone that may have observed this individual in the area before the incident or anyone with information about the identity or whereabouts of this individual are asked to call Seward County authorities at 402-643-2359. Seward County Sheriff Joe Yocum advises this subject is armed and dangerous and should not be approached. If observed, Sheriff Yocum encourages citizens to call 911 or local law enforcement to report the location of this individual.
Wednesday afternoon, the stolen jeep was found near Hebron. It had some front end damage, and the keys were in the ignition.
