UPDATE: Windstream phone service restored

Update: Windstream land line service restored to Nebraska customers.

Service was restored at around 11:30 Thursday night. Service to 911 is also back in service.

Windstream Communications says the outage began when one of its routers in Lincoln, and its backup failed around 7:45 a.m. Thursday. That caused 911 outages in David City, Fairbury, Hebron, Lincoln, Pawnee City, Plattsmouth, Seward, Superior, Wahoo and the surrounding areas.

Authorities had been receiving emergency reports by cell phone and in person throughout the day. Windstream spokesman David Avery said 36,000 customers were affected. In addition to 911 outages, there were some problems with local and long-distance phone service.
