The weather here in Nebraska always has people talking and today was no different.
The 12th annual central plains severe weather symposium took over UNL's east campus.
Nearly 3,000 people came to check out exhibits and learn more about how to stay safe when the weather takes a turn for the worse.
UNL professor and event organizer Ken Dewey says it's easy to see why there's always a big turnout, “if they're not talking about sports, the people of Nebraska are talking about their weather and it's famous, the weather, how changeable it can be.”
Dewey says being educated and prepared for the worst can make a life saving difference.
