Weeping Water cleans up after flash flooding

The town of Weeping Water is cleaning up after Wednesday night's flash flooding.

For the second time this year, Weeping Water Creek in Cass County has overrun its banks, taking out trees, ruining a nearby park and causing damage to homes.

Residents along the creek could not believe their eyes, or their ears, as they prepared for work.  Marie Schneider says, “I could hear this rush of water, and I thought, 'Boy that river water sounds loud!'  I called work and told them, 'it's row, row, row your boat, can't get to work.”

The creek overtopped bridges in town but left them in tact.  At least four inches of rain fell in just a few hours which also flooded several basements in Weeping Water.

No injuries were reported and the river has gone down.

The Missouri River at Brownville has also gone over its banks after just recently dropping below flood stage for the first time in two and a half months.
