Lincoln man accused of killing girlfriend enters plea

William Pereira

A Lincoln man charged with beating his girlfriend to death has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder.

William Pereira entered a written plea in Lancaster County District Court and waived his right to appear in court on Wednesday for an arraignment.

Lincoln police say Pereira beat Alissa Magoon to death on December 4th of last year.  In court documents, police say he was still beating her when officers arrived.

Pereira was sentenced to a year in jail for assaulting Magoon less than three months before she died.
