UPDATE: Winter weather advisory posted for Lincoln and surrounding area

UPDATE: A winter weather advisory is in effect from 6 a.m. Friday to 6 p.m. Saturday. The National Weather Service says the freezing drizzle will continue into this evening with the possibility of it switching to snow.

The snow is likely to continue overnight and into Saturday afternoon. Snow accumulation are predicted to be 1-2 inches. Wind chill values are expected to fall to 20 below Saturday evening and 25 below Saturday night. 

Surface temperatures will be below freezing. Untreated roads, sidewalks, parking lots and bridges could be icy. Please drive with caution and buckle up!

Beginning at midnight tonight, City crews will pre-treat all arterials, bus routes and school routes with anti-ice brine in anticipation of this weekend’s winter weather.  There will be 15 units on the road and the material application will be completed by 8 a.m. Friday.

The National Weather Service is predicting freezing rain and drizzle throughout the day Friday turning into snow overnight into Saturday, with possible snow accumulation of less than one inch.
