Woman killed in Blue Springs fire

One woman was killed and two men were injured in a house fire in Blue Springs.

Blue Springs is just south of Beatrice.  It happened at around 8:30 Monday morning.  Gage County Sheriff Millard “Gus” Gustafson says 66-year old Charlotte Taylor was found dead inside the home.  He says two men were taken to hospitals for injuries.  According to Taylor's niece, Cindy Reiney, Taylor was bedridden and on oxygen.  Reiney told us Wes O'Keefe, Taylor's son, tried to rescue his mother who had crawled out of bed to try to escape the fire.

The Sheriff says O'Keefe suffered burns while trying to rescue his mother.  O'Keefe told firefighters he and Tony Jones, 53, saw smoke coming from a garage that had been converted into a residence.  O'Keefe says he went inside and found Taylor lying on the floor.  He says he dragged Taylor out of the home and called 911.  O'Keefe was taken by helicopter to BryanLGH West  for his injuries.  Jones was taken to Beatrice Community Hospital and treated for his injuries.

Sheriff Gustafson says the cause of the fire appears to be accidental in nature, but the investigation is still ongoing.
