The front seat of her car is what Dani McArthur and her three dogs, Molly, Bailey and Cayden call home. A few months back, an electrical fire destroyed her trailer.

“To find somewhere that’s affordable and that will allow three large dogs, it’s so hard to do,” McArthur said.

McArthur first put her Shepherd-Rottweiler mixes in the care of a local animal shelter, but she said Molly had too much anxiety being away from her.

“Going there to see her, she was so scared,” McArthur remembered.

With three big dogs, McArthur’s been striking out with apartments. And since a home isn’t affordable right now, the 38–year–old said she had one choice: to live out of her Ford Escape until something turns up. She spends most nights parked at a local truck stop.

McArthur currently has a part-time job. She spends most of her money on her pups. She needs to take care of herself, though. Before the fire, doctors found an issue with her legs. They believe she has an autoimmune disease.

But she refuses to help herself. She said as long as her “furbabies” are okay, she’ll be just fine.

“I have to be,” she said wiping away tears. “I have to be, they need me.”

McArthur said a lot of friends have been helping her out with meals and gas money. An account has also been set up. If you’d like to help out, click here.
