Work on I-80 right on schedule

Construction along Interstate 80 between Lincoln and Omaha is trucking right along, and on schedule. By this fall, I-80 from the Waverly interchange to Omaha will be all done, three lanes going both ways. Then work will kick into high gear on the Interstate from Waverly to 56th street. That will take another year.

Thomas Goodbarn, an engineer with the Department of Roads says it should make commuters much happier.

“Once we have that 6 lane segment in, that's the way it's going to be hopefully for a long time before we have to go back and do any other work. But the commute between Omaha and Lincoln is going to get very short. You're at 75 miles per hour and you're going to come all the way in and it's going to be a nice ride,” Goodbarn said.

As many of you know, it's already 3 lanes from 56th through north Lincoln to Highway 77. Work will eventually begin to widen the road west of that.
