Wright Claims Discus Title at Arizona State Invitational

The Nebraska Track and Field team opened the 2012 outdoor season at the Arizona State Invitational in Tempe, Ariz., over the weekend. Chad Wright recorded his first title of the season as he finished first in the men's discus with a throw of 195-08 (59.65) on Saturday.

Tyler Hitchler followed Wright's lead, coming in second with a personal-best throw of 194-00 (59.13). Morgan Wilken posted a fifth-place finish in the women's discus, notching a mark of 168-01 (51.24). In the men's javelin throw, Austin Braman posted a mark of 217-03 (66.22) to come in third.

Mila Andric came away with a ninth-place finish in the 100 meter hurdles, recording a time of 14.33. She came in fifth in the 400 meter hurdles, posting a time of 1:00.40. Rachel Butler also represented the Huskers in the 400 meter hurdles, finishing ninth with a time of 1:03.39.

The hammer throw was completed on Friday evening, as Jade Siegel led the Husker women with a fourth-place finish on a throw of 187-0 (56.99). Mary Morales posted a personal best mark of 171-07 (52.31) and finished ninth. On the men's side, Carter Wasem finished eighth with a personal-best throw of 187-04 (57.10). Matt Giesselmann came in 11th, recording a throw of 173-10 (52.98).

The Huskers hit the road again next weekend for the Arkansas Spring Invitational on Saturday, March 31 in Fayetteville, Ark.
