Wright Leads Huskers in Arizona

Sophomore Katelyn Wright produced the best day of her Husker career with a two-round total of 147 to lead the Nebraska women's golf team on the first day of the Westbrook Invitational in Peoria, Ariz.

Wright, a native of Incline Village, Nev., matched the second-best round of her Nebraska career with an opening-round 73 on Monday at the Vistas Course at the Westbrook Village Golf Club.

Wright followed up her one-over-par first round with a 74 on the par-72, 6,178-yard layout of the Vistas Course in the second round to close the day in a tie for 19th at 147.

Nebraska senior Madeleine Sheils sits just one shot back of Wright in a tie for 27th, after managing back-to-back rounds of 74 on Sunday. Husker true freshman Shelby Martinek, a Tempe, Ariz., native, matched Sheils with a 148 of her own that included a even-par 72 in the second round.

Sophomore Steffi Neisen added a 72 of her own in the opening round, but settled for a second-round 80 to head into Monday's final round in a tie for 46th at 152. Senior Kayla Knopik rounded out NU's top five in a tie for 51st with an opening-round 76 and a second-round 77 to close the day at 153.

Senior Katie Keiser, who was playing as an individual outside of Nebraska's lineup, heads into the final round in 62nd at 158 (78-80).

As a team, Nebraska managed a tie for ninth in the 12-team field after two rounds. The Huskers opened with a 295, before adding a 297 to close the day in a tie with Idaho at 592. Illinois heads into the final round in first at 570, while Texas Tech sits two strokes back in 572. Washington State is in third at 579.

Nora Lucas from Illinois and Texas Tech's Gabriella Dominguez closed the first 36 holes tied atop the individual leaderboard at 137. The Fighting Illini's Hailey Koschmann is just one shot off the lead at 138 in third place.

The Huskers will conclude the tournament on Monday morning, beginning with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. (central). Live stats will be available at GolfStat.com.
