Yori Hires First Assistant
Lincoln–One of the top candidates to replace Paul Sanderford as the head coach of the Nebraska women's basketball program will be joining the Husker staff afterall, as an assistant to new head coach Connie Yori. Ex-Husker great Amy Stephens was hired by Yori on Wednesday.
The 34-year old Stephens has spent the past 8 seasons as the head women's coach at the University of Nebraska-Kearney where she led the Lopers to a mark of 197-43 and turned the program into one of the tops in the Division II ranks.
“I'm so excited. It feels great to be home,” Stephens said. “Coach Yori is a terrific person and a tremendous basketball coach. It's just a great opportunity to work on her staff at my alma mater.”
Yori said, “I think Coach Stephens has a great reputation as a coach throughout the state of Nebraska. She was one of the greatest players in school (NU) history, and I know she is excited to get here and get started building this program.”
