York Man Sentenced For Sexual Assault Of 7-Year-Old
A 32-year-old York man has been given 20-30 years in prison for sexually assaulting a 7-year-old girl. Dana Newsome was arrested in November 2007 and charged with first-degree sexual assault and child abuse. In a deal with prosecutors, Newsome pleaded no contest to sexual assault, and the charge of child abuse was dropped.
Before his sentencing Tuesday, Newsome said he blamed no one but himself for his crime but promised that he would not offend again. He asked that the judge consider probation. The prosecutor said Newsome poses a continued threat to children. Finally, District Judge Alan Gless said it was his job to protect other people, so he sentenced Newsome to 20 to 30 years in prison.
