10-seeded Husker women slotted for Fort Worth in first round of NCAA Tournament

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Nebraska women’s basketball team on Sunday found out who, and when, they are playing in the NCAA Tournament.

The Huskers will head to Fort Worth, Texas, to match up with Louisville on Friday.

This is the second consecutive season Nebraska has made a trip to the NCAA Tournament.

Last season, Nebraska headed to Corvallis to take on Texas A&M, beating the Aggies 61-59 in the first round. The Huskers fell in the second round to Oregon State.

But, according to Head Coach Amy Williams, she feels this year’s team is on the right foot heading into March.

“I think this team is confident that we know we’re a different team right now,” said Williams. “The goal has always been to be peaking towards the end, and playing our best basketball in March. That Big Ten tournament showed us that we’re doing that.”

The last time Nebraska made a long run in the tournament was 2013 when the Big Red made it to the Sweet 16, eventually falling to to Duke.

The Cardinals average 72.2 points per game and have an average scoring margin of +4.9.

Louisville racks up 36.5 rebounds per game and dishes out 14.5 assists per game.

The Cardinals are led by Jayda Curry, who averages 13.4 points and 2.6 rebounds per game. Tajianna Roberts averages 13.1 points, and Olivia Cochran tallies 10.1 points per game.

The winner of Nebraska and Louisville will move on to play the winner of No. 2 TCU and No. 15 Fairleigh Dickinson.
