$1,000 in produce burned in refrigeration unit fire at Lincoln Russ’s Market

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A fire inside a refrigeration unit at Russ’s Market in northeast Lincoln caused over $20,000 in damage.

Lincoln Fire & Rescue crews were sent Wednesday around 11:30 a.m. to the grocery store near 64th Street and Havelock Avenue.

LFR spokeswoman MJ Lierman said “improperly discarded smoking materials” sparked the fire.

Firefighters found the blaze in the exterior siding of the refrigeration unit.

Lierman said the cooler had $20,000 in damage, and the fire also destroyed about $1,000 worth of produce.

No one was injured.
