102-year-old Lincoln woman shares birthday with great-grandson

Marjorie Roberson celebrated her 102nd birthday on Wednesday with her great-grandson Elijah, who turned one on the same day.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – It was a once-in-a-lifetime celebration: A Lincoln woman celebrating her 102nd birthday on the same day her great-grandson turned one.

“I can’t believe I’m 102!” Marjorie Roberson exclaimed. “I’m so glad I get to see my family.”

Roberson celebrated her birthday at the Gateway Vista assisted living facility in the company of her daughter, her granddaughter, and two of her great-grandsons, Abraham and baby Elijah, who had a birthday celebration of his own.

“She made it to 100 and we all thought that was pretty awesome but her to be able to see both of her grandchildren here is very special,” says Elijah’s mother Holly Baynes.

Roberson laughed at the unique bond she and her great-grandson share.

“It is a happy coincidence and he’s a healthy little guy,” she said.

Roberson said the secret to living a long life is eating vegetables and staying active. She hopes her two great-grandsons have a chance to go to college, find something they enjoy, and live happy and healthy lives.

Baynes reflected on what the day means for baby Eli.

“He gets to share a special day with someone that’s very influential in all of our lives and is a very special person to us,” she said.
