14-year-old accused of crashing stolen pickup truck into northwest Lincoln pole

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A 14-year-old boy crashed a stolen pickup truck into a pole in northwest Lincoln on Friday, the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office says.

Around 11:30 a.m. Thursday, a pickup truck was reported stolen from a home near Seventh Street and Saltillo Road.

Chief Deputy Ben Houchin said the vehicle was left in the driveway with the keys in the ignition.

A day later, around 1:40 p.m., a witness saw the stolen truck crash into a pole near Northwest 56th and Adams streets.

Three teens got out of the vehicle and ran away.

“I’m surprised nobody none of them were hurt because none of them were wearing seat belts,” Houchin said.

About 20 minutes later, authorities found the teens near 10th and Superior streets and took them into custody.

A 14-year-old boy admitted to stealing the vehicle, and Houchin said he was cited on suspicion of several charges, including felony theft.

Two girls were also in the truck at the time of the crash but they were not cited.

Houchin said the pole that was struck will need to be replaced.
