14-year-old charged with first-degree murder in northeast Lincoln stabbing

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A 14-year-old boy accused of a deadly weekend stabbing is going to be tried as an adult.

Stephen D’Amore appeared in court via Zoom on Wednesday afternoon on charges of first-degree murder and use of a weapon to commit a felony.

Police said D’Amore stabbed Xavian Sawyer, 16, Saturday during a fight near 64th and Adams streets.

Investigators think the teens knew each other and said a fight at another location might’ve led to the stabbing.

Prosecutors requested that D’Amore’s bond be set at $1 million, citing past juvenile criminal referrals.

But his attorney asked for a $200,000 bond, saying the teen is not a flight risk.

The judge set D’Amore’s bond at $750,000. D’Amore must pay 10% of that, $75,000, to be released.

Police are seeking witnesses of the fight.  Anyone with information is asked to call police at 402-441-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
