14-year-old found hiding in shed after stealing vehicle in Kearney, police say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A 14-year-old boy tried evading officers Monday after stealing a vehicle in Kearney, police say.

Around 4 p.m., police learned that a stolen vehicle was heading east on 11th Street.

Officers found the vehicle near Ninth Avenue and 11th Street, and the driver ran away, according to police.

Investigators set up a perimeter, using a dog and a drone to search for the driver.

Around 4:50 p.m., officers found the 14-year-old boy hiding in a shed and took him into custody.

Police said a juvenile petition has been filed with multiple charges, including trespassing and theft by receiving stolen property.
