17-year-old arrested in fatal shooting at north Lincoln house party, police say
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A 17-year-old has been arrested in last Friday’s fatal shooting at a north Lincoln house party, police say.
Kashuan McCree is accused of shooting 18-year-old Damien Brave inside a house near 27th and Fair Streets around 11:30 p.m.
McCree shot Brave “over a bag” that he was holding, Police Chief Teresa Ewins said Friday. She did not share what was inside the bag.
Ewins said investigators don’t think the two knew each other before the shooting.
McCree wasn’t a student at any Lincoln schools. Brave had attended a couple of Lincoln high schools but was no longer enrolled.

On the night of the shooting, officers were sent to the house on reports of gunshots. When they arrived, police say several high school-aged people were seen fleeing the house party.
Ewins said McCree was taken into custody Thursday by members of LPD and the U.S. Marshals Service in Detroit.
“Our community knows our department will track down suspects wherever an investigation leads, using all available resources to bring suspects to justice,” she said. “It was good investigative skills by our people that acted on tips, as well as information they received.”

Lancaster County Attorney Pat Condon said McCree will be charged as an adult.
He said when making the decision to charge a minor as an adult, prosecutors look at a person’s criminal history and other charges, as well as the severity of the crime.
“McCree will be charged with murder in the first degree and use of a weapon to commit a felony,” Condon said.
Because of his age, if convicted, McCree would serve 40 years to life in prison on the first-degree murder charge, according to Condon.
McCree is currently waiting to be extradited from Michigan to Nebraska.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for Brave’s family to pay for funeral expenses.
