17-year-old found dead on Pillen hog farm in central Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A 17-year-old boy was found dead Monday at a hog farm partially owned by Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen.

Around 11:30 a.m., the Boone County Sheriff’s Office responded to a hog farm near St. Edward, which is northwest of Columbus, on a report of an unresponsive 17-year-old.

The Boone County attorney has requested an autopsy, and an investigation is ongoing.

Sarah Pillen, the governor’s daughter and the co-CEO of Pillen Family Farms, released a statement on the teen’s death.

“The loss of Zach Panther has left us profoundly saddened,” she said in the statement. “Though his employment with our Team was very brief, he positively impacted those he worked with.”

The sheriff’s office said foul play is not suspected.

“We deeply mourn Zach’s passing and extend our prayers to his loved ones during this very difficult time,” Pillen said in the statement.
