171 Nebraska schools awarded share of $10 million in safety and security grants

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Nebraska schools have been awarded $10 million in safety and security grants for security-related infrastructure projects.

The Nebraska Department of Education received 217 applications from schools wanting a share of the money.

The total amount requested totaled more than $55 million, which officials said shows a significant need for enhanced security measures.

The department said each application went through a review process that considered many factors, with an emphasis on the four pillars of school safety and security.

The four pillars are prevention, preparedness, response and recovery.

After review, 171 schools were awarded grants.

The Crete, Fillmore Central, Malcolm and Waverly school districts each received $2,000 for upgrades such as audio systems, fencing, walkie-talkies and doors.

Parkview Christian received $6,300 for doors, while York was given $7,500 for key fobs.

Lincoln Pius X received $12,276, and Lincoln Lutheran received $15,662 for new access control systems.

Raymond Central received $22,311 for door access systems, while Lincoln Christian was given $45,000 for door hardening.
