18 people died in crashes on Nebraska roads in January

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Nebraska Department of Transportation reported Thursday that 18 people died in crashes last month.
Officials said at least eight of the 14 vehicle occupants killed were not wearing seat belts.
Four pedestrians were killed in crashes, and another died driving an ATV. Icy roads were a factor in two crashes.

The number of fatalities doubled from the previous January, when nine people were killed on Nebraska roads.
But it’s on par with the average of 19 January traffic deaths from 2020 to 2023.
