19-year-old injured in downtown Lincoln shooting, police say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A man was injured in a shooting late Thursday night in downtown Lincoln, police say.

Around 11:15 p.m., officers were near Canopy and Q streets monitoring concert traffic at Pinnacle Bank Arena when “numerous” gunshots were heard.

A 19-year-old man from Omaha was shot in his right arm, according to LPD.  He was taken to a hospital with an injury that was not life-threatening.

One of the bullets shattered a window at a nearby hotel.

A couple in town from the Husker game was staying just four rooms down.

“Yeah, I’m surprised,” Lina Garcia said. “Lucky it didn’t go through our window.”

A worker at the hotel said he was cleaning up blood for hours.

One Lincolnite, Olivia King, said she was surprised to hear that a shooting could happen so close to where she lives.

“I am shocked, especially since I live right down the street,” she said. “To know that this happened close by is kind of scary.”

At this time, no arrests have been made. King said she hopes police find the shooter soon so she’ll feel more comfortable walking around during tomorrow’s game.

“I just hope they can get this figured out soon so everybody feels a little more at ease,” she said.

Police said the investigation is active and ongoing. Investigators are following up on leads based on video evidence they reviewed Friday morning.

Anyone with information, including video recordings, is asked to call police at 402-441-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
