19-year-old killed in north Omaha shooting, police say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A woman was killed Wednesday night in a shooting in a north Omaha neighborhood, police say.

Around 9 p.m., officers were sent to the area of North 37th Street and Grand Avenue on a report of shots fired.

When officers arrived, they saw a Chevrolet Tahoe leave the area.

Shortly after, officers saw the vehicle near 31st and Sorenson Parkway and chased after it, police said.

During the pursuit, the call was upgraded to a shooting.  The chase ended near North 41st and Spalding streets, and two people were taken into custody.

The victim, 19-year-old Dontayzhia Swift of Omaha, was taken to the University of Nebraska Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead.

An investigation is ongoing.
